my house was on fire tonight

no one was hurt and nothing major was destroyed. it happened around 2am saturday night. tony and i were just finishing up mary poppins, when i hear fire engines outside. i look and notice they’re *directly* in front of our house. this makes me nervous. next thing i know there are loud footsteps running up the stairs and through the 2nd floor. this is when i get really concerned. i go find joel and let him know what’s going on. i wake tony up and joel goes to check the back room where we can hear a lot of commotion. right about this time a fire fighter comes to the door and suggests that we wait outside for a while. everything seems pretty under control at this point. we leave as a safety measure. i grab my purse, phone and my backup drive and i’m out of the house. everything here could have burned.

turns out that the fire started on the back steps. someone left a lit cigarette on them and the stairs seem to have caught fire. go figure. the 3rd floor neighbors noticed smoke in their room and called 911. if it wasn’t for them we might have all lost everything. they have my complete thanks ^^ i don’t think i even saw any of the 2nd floor neighbors, who were responsible. funny how life happens some times. i wasn’t really concerned at all. after all the fire drills we’ve been through at work and school, there was no panic in me. i was confident the firefighters would save us from any real harm and luckily this time that was the case. thanks guys ^^
